I have been curious on how magic luck works at item drop rate level. It also effects the quality of the stats once it is rolled, but i did not test that, as it would require thousands sample size to have any statistically significant result. I also did not test if drops/kills ratio changes with magic luck.

So, here is the result of 1022 item drops sample test.

Test setup:
a- Level1 char, 0 magic luck - 461 drops
b- Level1 char, 7 magic luck - 561 drops

both chars re-rolled once they are lvl2. so all stats below are lvl1 drop rates to keep things controlled.

Observations:

Magic luck effects drop rate of normal vs magic-unique
a: 50,2% normal drops, 49,8% magic+
b: 45,1% normal drops, 54,9% magic+

Magic luck effects rare chances:
a: 12,4%
b: 14,6%

Magic luck has no discernible effect on mystical+ drop rates, at sample of 1022. Probably bigger sample is needed to see. This also implies, the effect is less than 1 percentage points. You will see in chart that ML0 even seems to do better on angelic, which is unexpected. This would probably be corrected if I had more sample.

Magic luck effects also the tier drop distribution, albeit slightly:
a: 60,2% tier 1
b: 56,9% tier 1

Conclusions:

If you were to run a +7 magic luck constantly, you can expect ~10% more magic+ drops (from a: 49,8% to b: 54,9%), assuming magic luck effect remains same for higher levels.
Likewise, you will see higher tiers drops more often, in this experiment tier3 was highest possible tier, and increased by ~5% (a: 6,9% to b: 7,3%) that is 32 items vs 41 items on their own samples, so it is significant, but can be slightly changing at larger sample.
Regardless of magic luck, drop rates of arcane+ is ~ 2%, at 7 magic luck not much effect is visible.

What exactly was the different item setups that u had?
without the ML gear for example, did u have stat gear/EE items to make it easier on killing?

edit; also is this only from whistling? or regular monsters without EP spawns.

does item stats matter for drops?

this is 7ML:

Angelic bronze sword
Damage: 4 to 42

+7 Dexterity
+54 Max Life
+3 Magic Luck
+1% Lightning Mastery
Mythical rawhide leather armor
Physical Defense: 2 to 8
Magical Defense: 2 to 9

+46 Max Life
+2 Magic Luck
+1 to 2 Life per Attack
+1% Parry
+3% Earth Mastery
Rare focused heal II
Heals: 12 to 14
Mana Cost: 13

+2 Magic Luck
+2 Extra Equipment Slots
No Accessory Charm

and this is 0 ML:

Rare bronze axe
Damage: 32 to 39

+44% Enhanced Effect
+6% Experience Gained
Rare bone scale armor
Physical Defense: 4 to 16
Magical Defense: 3 to 10

+3 Extra Equipment Slots
+1% Parry
Angelic wind III
Spell Damage: 7 to 32
Mana Cost: 21

+233 Max Life
+1 to 5 Life per Attack
+1 to 3 Mana per Attack
+2% Mana Skin

edit: mostly normals, some whistling, ran around a bit but maybe 2-3 EP total only, not significant

There's alot of theories about the speed of killing monsters affect drops aswell
That's why I was wondering, but yeah looks like u have alot more dmg on ur none-ML setup.

= The slower it is, the more / better drops u get. (I Can't say that it works like this for sure, but over the years it really feels this way)

The difference 0 vs 7 magic luck as shown above is not that much. If part of this difference is actually due to killing speed, magic luck would have no effect left.
However, at lvl1 almost all monsters are one hit kills even without ee on the tier3 sword i used.

Will read it fully later on.

When I play my main characters, I normally have 7ml from level 25 - MQ, I would say there are a lot of variances because the drop rate testing @ level 1 has a ton more drop % Rate of items and your kill speed is basically 1 hit with either setup.

I 100% believe this, more actions (against monster = better chance)

Its debatable that the ppl using ML gear are seeing beneficial drops because of the extra actions taken to kill the monster over the ML

from my experience on hc, I found way more items when I was a newb using weaker gear.

From the beta 2x climbs I found better stuff the first time with weaker gear, opposed to the 25 ee dagger and 55 ee dagger, drops were less significant

I’m also assuming that these runs were made during events that didn’t affect magic luck including increased monster difficulty?
