It has been my personal experience through 5 climbs..
2 climbs with EE plates and 3 climbs with EE scales that I tanked better with scales since the new patch than anyone with ee plate.

With this in mind, do note i did come across a rough estimate of 2:3 ratio of melee:caster in Arena

For overall tanking, in my opinion, I think scales is the way to go for Catacomb tanking.

Its simple math bro. Yes, not a lot of people have realized more melee mobs are spawning in in arena vs caster mobs. Yet when it gets down to it your armor of choice is just like choosing a weapon now, magical def + melee def and avg it out.

true, but you have a better chance to get hit for 0 more times with scales than plates due to plates having no magical defense

and yes i know ur agreeing lol

Also I'm just going to stick my neck out there and say Chains are the best armor in the game now. :P

Their caster defense modifier seems to be viable enough for a tanker and again... the over spawning of melee mobs vs caster mobs makes the Chain a much better tank armor in solo play.

chains are nice, but in catas, i still like scales.

3 melee 1-2 magical in my experience so far

I'm still kinda back and forth myself.

I have this plate:
Angelic ultimanium plate mail
Level Req: 55
Physical Defense: 110 to 330
Magical Defense: 0 to 39
+171% Enhanced Effect
+42 Intelligence
+1 Critical Strike
+2% Damage Return

I take around 25 damage per hit in cata (barely have to heal leveling solo)



Arcane fine honed leather armor
Level Req: 55
Physical Defense: 56 to 168
Magical Defense: 40 to 162
+177% Enhanced Effect
+22 Strength
+141 Max Life
+13% Experience Gained
+3% Damage Return
+12% Critical Flux

And with this leather I barely have to heal on a rogue (about 36 damage per mob hit 65-71). I usually go with the leather as it has exp gain and str/crit flux, makes the levels a little faster.

yeah, but that intel makes up for a LOT on that plate too.
without the intel i just dnt see it being as good.

I know my preferance is medium armors..
i played with chains and scales and plates.
never did leathers tho.
