I think this addition would be extra exciting if it fits the game dynamics. I'll describe it as thoroughly as possible. Sorry, kids - no pictures.

-A musical instrument would go in your accessory slot. This will affect healers the most, and is why I don't think Bard should be a new feeder.
-They can only be used in the catacombs, and only drop there.
-Click on a monster, yourself, or party members to play it.
-When played, yourentire party gains the mods of the instrument. Kinda like a "party glyph."
-The musical magic lasts for about a second -- unless continually played (like holding the down arrow.)
-Your proficiency level and enhanced effectadd to that second.
-I suggest three different types of instruments (Pipes, Strings, Percussion,) with tiers just like everything else. When playing instruments outside of your skill level, however, there would be a great chance of missing a note. I might even go as far as to say you must have, for instance, 55 levels into Pipes Proficiency to play a level 55 Mystical Clarion Call.

So a skilled musician with a fine instrument could strike a note at the beginning of battle and the party would be bolstered for virtually the entire fight.

Overpowered? What if something like this dropped? Even without your little accessory heal?

Mystical Clarion Call
Pipe Instrument
Required Level: 55
+9% Power Shot
+41 Intelligence
+5% Life Steal (This would not work currently. I would be in favor of making musical life stealwork in the catacombs if it is possible to code.)

This would be more like what people would find, being almost as rare as a totem.

Magical Cracked Lute
Strings Instrument
Required Level: 1
+2 Dexterity

Fill in the gaps :P Not sure if the standard item Materials would need to follow this.

Tier Strings Percussion Pipes
I cracked lute tattered drum rusted flute
II
III penny whistle
IV elm flute
V iron lyre oak reed
VI
VII
VIII mithril horn
IX diamond horn
X
XI tempered diamond harp
XII
XIII
XIV stratavarius fine honed bongos? clarion call

Class Strings Percussion Pipes
Fi - X X
Ro X - X
Ma X - X
Gu - X X
Sa X - X
Pa X X -
Mo - X X
Ni X - -
Wa - - -
HH - X -
Al X X X

I think that's about it... Lemme hear opinions and feedback and how this is never going to happen lol.

I like the idea. Tho it's straigth from WoW, where they actually removed these so called "music" items. or they didn't remove, just made them unable to be used after certain level

Then again! I think there should be a class called "bard" for this. I like bards in games anyway ;)

E: Nah, no bards in WoW, just this kind of instruments.

Yet since if you're supposed to keep on playing the instrument here, I think the idea works perfectly well without the need for bard... Doesn't mean I wouldn't like a bard!

And there would need to be a musical note by the party or even SOUND to indicate if someone is playing or not. And only one person can play at a time (unless we get really complicated and have Learned Songs with specific mods and Orchestral Pieces for dueling banjos.)

edit

I only played WoW a month, I thought it was Everquest that had bards.
We only need a bard class if you need required proficiency level for high level instruments. Much like fishing rods.

I voted yes
Even though when i entered into this little topic :
before reading any thing other the the post title, I was like
"What a stupid idea, let me guess, MAKE A BARD!"

thanks for proving me wrong and getting one of the few Yes's I have ever voted on it

Intuitive idea
very well thought out
I would like to see/know more of this as you idea develops

ehm can u attack while using this intrument?
and will u get actions for clicking (playing) it?

edit: imo one intrument is enough... nn 3 different (similar) ones

You will need to press R to use the accessory slot, and then click.
So you won't be able to attack or cast if you want to play it. Each click is an action (you asked because of how much party exp you will get for sitting there banging your drum?)
I feel strongly there should be different types. Heals are divided into three types, heavy weapons are divided into types, and so should this intended add. It gives class diversity and more challenge from mastering a particular instrument's proficiency (A headhunter would only be able to use drums, cuz jazz flute is for little faerie elf boys.)

I like the idea Very Much Bro.

But this would make all Glyphers very mad, they would become useless, unless ofc the Glyph would stack whit the Music.
Wouldn't that be overpowered??

i love the idea it is kind of beautiful, musical note that lasts with the prof
there is only one rub with me and that is i don't believe you realise just how overpowering this would be

i thought i had a fairly good handle on ls prior to getting my glyphing prof moving and was litteraly stunned by the effect of what appeared to be useless adds when placed upon a strong base. dramatic

the charm you quote is a good example:

Mystical Clarion Call
Pipe Instrument
Required Level: 55
+9% Power Shot
+41 Intelligence
+5% Life Steal

that is actualy a very powerful charm indeed, the overall effect on a charecter would be devestatingly extraordinary when applied over and beyond what is already in place. you could pop it on in the arena with a sword and with the correct balance be ridiculously strong already
now that is the top end of the scale but my point is that i am not sure people have a grasp of just how easy it is to be utterly overpowering and how slight alterations can take you through the varied lvls of performance. most efforts tend towards the efficiency aspects of builds (making best use of mana/life) and not the dominating ones (mana/life being peripheral as you are beyond worrying about them). the degrees for improvement in the latter are tough to balance but miniscule when speaking in the terms of extra adds to a solidly constructed charecter.

rambling once more but long and short is lovely idea but i fear would not work out in the format presented
