Is just random, there is no specific amount of squares, with this New event with 60% more EP's you will see them more frequently

but normally, you can explore entire cata's and only get 1-2 EP's per the entire thing, its all RNG luck

I found 2 since then, just bad luck I guess.. Do you know how many tiles you need to explore before you can remake and have no timeout? I notice also if you leave with monsters alive the penalty is higher

Sounded to me like you wanted a mathematic equation to the spawn rate of EPs so you could program your shit.

Spawn rate would be a number not an equation but no, I'm aware how to maximize ep's: maximise the number of encounters you have on unexplored tiles, so maps are better than cata's where every time you turn or path over explored terrain you have a chance of an encounter. Now that I know I can remake after two minutes I won't ever go over explored terrain again in catas and try to stick to maps.
