It's a very nuanced topic. I'm reminded of a news story on tv about 10-12 years ago, never forgot it .. a guy had a physical illness condition of sorts, causing him to live with excruciating pain constantly. And the topic was just this .. the government would not assist him in suicide, he said even his wife would assist him with it if they would let her, but they wouldn't .. reported asked him are you really serious in this, "What do you think?" he said twice.
In such extreme cases, and there are no scientific help to offer... there should be a highly competent panel that could evaluate it ethically correct. It should never be left to one single person.
But we must really guard against one thing, and that is people wanting assisted suicide due to bullying and harassment or similar circumstances.
Bullying is something that should have been dealt with more by governments and school systems worldwide since it was implemented. We cannot have a society where, just because bullying is not dealt with through economic spending on social workers and psychologist in school, assisting teachers keeping a safe environment, that we then assist bully victims in suicide while the bullies gets to live free and do what they want. Because it is a "natural human behaviour". It is also natural to want to help a victim, they seem to conveniently forget about that, to include ethics into the calculation. I've read news articles along those lines, makes me sick.
That is the big, big danger with it. It's basically systematized injustice of the human soul. You get poeple like epstein and trump avoiding justice, while countless victims must live with scarred psyches and ruined lives. It shows right down to the school yard, people like them, that is where such values are formed. And if we then get assisted suicide as a systematized part of society, well, then it is the ultimate way to degrade the human soul into pure utility, i.e., we become more worthless.
Governments must spend money on social workers just being around children and youth in schools, talking to them, telling them "now you are acting stupid, get your act together, stop bullying and start taking responsibility for your emotions and actions" and similar things - not just once, but over the entire school period, like 10-12 years. That is what should have been done and must be done, what is lacking. Spending money on that, would be infinitely cheaper than spending money on the other end; Drug abuse, social welfare, disability benefits, crime, and self-harming life patterns that is the result of exactly this system; Low self esteem and disrespect.
In one way, it can be compared to world war 2, the series Secret army, last episode, one guy that worked as a spy/evasion line operator, and survived against all odds, was asked if the war really was necessary; He said yes, this one was necessary, because humanity was fighting for survival. Evil was taking over.
It's the same goddamn thing, as i see it. World war 3 is not going to be fought with guns or bombs - but with intellect trying to dominate emotions and soul. That is the big one. And if evil wins, we will get a global elite dominating over the poor and middle class, which will probably be just the poor. Which is what would have happened if the germans had won ww2, in the end, they would get nuclear weapons, dominate the entire european, african and eurasian continents, and taken over the American continent in the future, i.e. world domination. We must guard against that.
Whether the human soul, governments and good forces has the willingness and strength to keep it at bay or even vanquish it.. we will find out. I know i will always fight against corporate greed and bullying in any shape and form. It's about life and death, and we all must choose which side we stand on. I see very clearly with the attitude and words people use, even on this site, which sides they have chosen. Like if the words and attitude is that of life or death. It's very clear to see.
