The silent replacement of game developers for AI/LLMs doing all the coding, e.g.: from art to maps, from quests to marketing, and from customer service to monitoring game chat and other things. We're probably on the cusp of where game-centred coding and marketing are solely the realm of coding by AI/LLMs. The CEO(s) and/or shareholders only need to give a prompt.
When I had watched the documentary on David Brevik and Diablo, it was so exciting to see what passion can create. David and his crew had weeks, maybe, months where they stayed at work working on the code that would become the original Diablo. So many game developers at that time were excited and committed to the work that they were doing. It was like the wild, wild West.
