Is it true "Armadillo" is Spanish for a Mexican turtle?

The word "armadillo" comes from Spanish, meaning "little armored one," derived from "armado," which means "armored," and the diminutive suffix "-illo." It is related to the Latin word "armāre," meaning "to arm" or "to equip with armor."

edit: another illo word for example sake is Cigarillo, a smaller thinner cigar.
So it makes sense armado + illo, armour small
