Woodpeckers are magestic. In our neck of the woods and in the Spring, Summer, and Autumn, we have two species of woodpeckers. The larger ones kind of keep at a distance and you can hear them knocking on/drilling in trees even if they are very far away. The little ones, we have to be careful with. They zoom past homes. If the windows are very clean, they do slam into an outward opening window or even if the window is closed. The reflection of the sky confuses them. Maybe once or twice a year, I run out to help move a stunned little woodpecker from our driveway so that outdoor cats do not get them.
