A little glimpse at the banana and its effect(s) on life...

BED: banana equivalent doses

Quote
  • the maximum permitted radiation leakage for a nuclear power plant is equivalent to 2,500 BED (250 μSv) per year.
  • a chest CT scan delivers 70,000 BED (7 mSv).
  • an acute lethal dose of radiation is approximately 35,000,000 BED (3.5 Sv, 350 rem).
  • a person living 16km (10mi) from the Three Mile Island nuclear reactor received an average of 800 BED of exposure to radiation during the 1979 Three Mile Island accident.

So, it is difficult to eat a lot of bananas. We need not worry about the radiating radiation from a yummy banana.

Yes. It's the potassium.

"Bananas happen to contain a relatively high amount of potassium, but only a small fraction of that potassium is radioactive. ... a banana contains, on average, 451 milligrams of potassium. Fortunately for us banana-enjoyers, only 0.012% of naturally occurring potassium is radioactive."

That's pretty interesting. I had a friend that had aids and he would have to get potassium shots sometimes. I wonder if the radiation was some kind of treatment for the disease. Kind of like how they use radiation to kill cancer

They use bananas that are close to rotten to make banana loaves?
