In a universe that is so large that we can barely, if at all, conceptualize it's ginormous size, I do wonder if the life of the tiniest of insects is as rare, possibly, as valuable as a human's? I struggle with that as I, too, do not pay a lot of attention to where I am stepping while hiking.

And, the abducting extraterrestrials placed my little brain not in a vat, but in a jam jar. They did not need to use a larger jar nor vat. So far, I have not felt any discomforts from being a brain in a jam jar with numerous nanoparticle thin cables attached to me. I do miss being able to hold a little tub of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. They try to fool me with a simulation. But, it's not the same. Nope. Nope.
