Just a small thread about DIY projects and what I learned today.

Today watched some videos on waterproofing fabric

Essentially you melt 2 cups of mineral oil for every 2lb of parafin wax in a pan. Or 500ml mineral oil : 1kg wax.
Let it cool and harden, then rub the wax into your clothes or fabric and melt it in with a hair dryer.

Cheaper and healthier option to PFCs. I proofed my hiking bag so now I don't have to worry about shit getting wet inside.

Chainsaw sharpening guide

If you have any clue about chainsaws then you would know even a shitty chainsaw can cut wood well as long as the chain is sharpened properly.
The difference is how long they last and what the power to weight ratio is.

This is probably one of the more informative videos on the sharpening technique. You really need to watch several to be able to sharpen like a pro. All you need is a simple file and maybe a rake gage.
This was a game changer. The saw glides through timber makes the job easier faster and prolongs the life of your chainsaw.

Cheap and reliable rust removal

1L water : 63g of baking soda : 100g citric acid
33.8 fl oz water : 2.22 oz baking soda : 3.5 oz citric acid
Then add a squirt of regular dishsoap after the bubbles have subsided stir and its ready.

Works better than most products like Evaporust and doesn't damage the metal like most heavy acids do.

Yesterday I was cleaning up some of my tools and one of them was the skillsaw blade. If you cutting plywood and resin heavy wood it tends to build up on the blades. After awhile you are no longer cutting well and normally i would just buy a new blade.

Sometime ago I discovered that you can save some money just by cleaning the gunk off the blade.

Most of the time the teeth are still sharp and intact and will essentially x2 your blade usage.

50/50 concentrated detergent to water soak in a shallow pan for 30mins then scrub away with a brush. Dry and spray crc to prevent rusting.

This might be the answer to removing rust on the tools we use in our workplace
Like most of our forceps are rusty
We rub them with wire brushes to try and remove it whenever we wash them but isnt too effective
