work? Why do we insist on prying out every ounce of workforce of everyone, creating illnesses and other problems, instead of say 2-3 hour workdays, and then everyone has more energy to contribute? The goal should be that everyone should be able to contribute for a lifetime, right? Work should be something that is halfway enjoyable, or at the very least tolerable. And the aim is to stay focused and do a job constantly and consistenly for 8 hours .. no idle chatting, no smoke breaks or anything. That is unrealistic. 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. And then there is responsibilities on top of that.

3 hour workdays. That would make 95% of the population be able to contribute. Would be a much more humane way to run things, wouldn't it?

If you think 8 hours is a lot, you need to grow up and accept being an adult...

A 3 hour workday would grind North American economies to a halt. It is already hard enough to meet the industrial demand for energy and chemicals. The only way that can work is if technology replaces manpower and a lot of people don't like that idea either. A huge economic problem as I see it is people being employed in useless jobs like the food service industry. Sorry but a waiter is the kind of job that is completely unneeded and that person's skills could be put to practical use such as building or engineering.

You cry about this? Do you know what people used to suffer under without unions and the labor movement?

Your McJob must be hard.

Look for different line of work if this is an issue for you.

When I was 23 I worked doing scaffolding that was painting a large bridge.

was 6 days a week 12 hour days.

paid was 29 an hour and time in a half. 29 doesn't sound like a lot but this was like 10 years ago

I worked with some really seasoned people with interesting back stories. I was just there on this particular job. They travel around Canada/US repainting bridges. If they worked 3 hours a day the job would never get complete and the bridge would rust. Then we have no major bridges.

working that 3 monthish job I made killer money and put most of my paychecks in a IRA / S&P index fund. And got insane compound growth over the years.

I work a white collar job goverment job now and honestly only do "real work" for about 2 hours of my 8 hour shift.

That is what I did, and it is a great plan! Success to you!
