I think most phones can't contrast well enough to actually show the crescent. I know my phone and everyone around me who tried just showed a big bright spot. You couldn't tell there was an eclipse even at the 90ish% we got. At least with the out-of-the-box iphone app.

My raw eyes enjoyed it once it was at its maximum, and my left eye ensured i was on time to see it once it reached that point.

My friend wore a welders mask and said it was fine and then all the sudden was so bright he had to take it off. Supposedly there were settings or something you were supposed to adjust on the helmet . Did you adjust yours?
