There is an old scifi: The Outer Limits.
Every episode is a different story with different actors. And there was an episode about a guy having a huge tumor in his leg and he was going to die. But his friend was working on a nanobot prototype stuff and one day he went for a visit and stole a sample and injected in his leg. In a few weeks the tumor gone. And also he got superhealing. He told his friend he stole the sample and its working, so they started testing it. he had inceased strenght, endurance, could hold his breath longer underwater etc... But the bots thought, he could stay longer underwater... so one night they made on him gills... it was a minor inconvenience, since he had to wear a scarf all the time but it worked. Then the nanobots thought: Man, you can't see backwards, and they put eyes on the back of his skull... As a kid it horrified me when they shown the big hairy tumor opened up and there was an eye... Gave me a few nightmares for sure They wanted to stop it multiple ways but everything failed. It was late and I had to go to bed and I only know the ending from my friend. He got punched in the stomach so he get extra ribs to protect it. and later he got nettle or stinging cells on his skin. Later I catched the very end of this episode: At the end he died or they killed him, and they shown his wife scar on her hand instahealed. This series had rarely a happy ending...
