You are arguing about what specifically causes light refraction and reflection. This was brought up because rainbows were brought up. In the instance of rain drops refracting/reflecting light, the whole argument does not matter, since rain drops have the "water surface" (for the lack of a better word) that causes light to refract.
tl;dr: You're just diverting the discussion away from the actual point: whether or not rain can refract sunlight and create rainbows without a mirror.
yes and then I asked if a flashlight would refract underwater and he said it would because there is air around the bulb and then it goes though the glass on the front, so I an showing proof it doesn't refract.
