crusades are a good start

Inquisition, Crusades, Manipulation, sexual harrassment and assaults and so on. But the most spectacular damage was done to the scientific and free thinker minds... I could say Galileo or Darwin and so on. They halt the cultural and scientific advancement of the humanity, just for their benefit, because dumb and superstitious men are more controllable.

Don't get me wrong, I agree the basic teaching of the religions, like "love your neighbor as thyself" or the Ten Commandments, and christianity helped in the unification of the european culture and make it a little bit more peaceful, indeed. And it is completely irrevelant to argue about if it would be better or worse if there wasn't any religion, because there are many. We need to learn how to live peacefully side by side.
