Talisker 18 and Springbank 18 are worth trying out. Not so overpowering like a Laphroaig.

ive had talisker storm, its good. i havent had the 18. i dont think ive had springbank, but its on my list of things to try.

Half the battle/fun is being able to find a place that carries what you are looking for.

So, I'm not really a fan of the regular dewars, but they did a series of different cask finishes, and the Japanese cask finish is actually really good. Gives it a flavor profile closer to that of a single malt. And it's a steal of a deal at only about 23 per bottle. It's was originally intended as a limited edition, but they said it came out so good they're going to add it to the regular lineup. Who knows if/ when that'll happen, though, so I've been hitting up all the local liquor stores and buying up whatever I find.

One store still had a bottle left of the mezcal cask finish. Got that, too, we'll see how good that one is.
