I was thinking I'd like to get some real plants as well.

We use anacharis in Nuggets tank. He loves it. Some plants are much harder so do your homework on the needs of what you get as far as live plants.

If you want to grow your own plants in the tank I’d go with a 15 gal Fluval Flex. It’s a good all-in-one for a beginner and not too expensive. I have a nice Betta and a couple Amano shrimp in mine, quite low maintenance compared to others.

Where do you get De ionized water?
Or your freshwater.

Depending on how clean your water is at home, you can use tap water that you treat with Prime and adjust the pH (Alkaline buffer or Acid buffer). You can also add products to raise the general hardness and supplements (potassium mainly) of your water.

Most "do your own wine/beer" places have self-serve reverse-osmosis water for cheap. If you choose that you’ll just need to adjust the pH and minerals. You’ll only need to use Prime when you do bigger water changes.

LED lights don’t produce nutrients so no BUT your fish will help with that by producing nitrates and nitrites.

Yep that one is a really good beginner product and isn’t too expensive. The lights will be enough for easy maintenance plants (you’ll still need to add some nutrients).

Cleaned up.

Added more anacharis. Upped the water level a tad. Swished filters.
