religion involves spirits/gods. Sexuality has nothing to do with that. It's not religious. It's also not political, unless you force it to be political.
Not every gay/trans person is part of any kind of movement or involvement of what you mentioned. Some people can share similarities and be apart of the same group. but it doesn't mean they're all the same.
Belief in a gender (or sexual orientation) soul/spirit is a spirit. Belief that your true self is at odds with your physical reality or being is belief in a spirit - something immaterial and unmeasureable.
You are right though that it isn't necessarily political for everybody - however, the right to present yourself as gay/trans is 100% political as it must be legally permitted. It is illegal in most countries. So it itself is absolutely political, even if it doesn't appear as such on first glance under present normative law.
