the constant tension still needs to apply whether it is contracting or expanding

2. a resilient device, typically a helical metal coil, that can be pressed or pulled but returns to its former shape when released, used chiefly to exert constant tension or absorb movement.

Not whether it is contracting or expanding. Exert constant tension OR absorb movement. Keep on distorting definitions to fit your worldview.

Don't use them as a fucking scapegoat to try to earn sympathy that you were wrong in the definition of a spring!

It is not my definition, but a spring needs to exert constant tension throughout, as in it acts as one solid force, and it has a mechanical function, slinkys do not fit this definition.

Claiming Slinkys are springs is like claiming a bowl of jello is an ice cube because both are made with cold water.

No it doesn't. OR ABSORB movement. Re-read the definition again

which definition is it that you're referencing, i just ask because its obviously not the one you posted where it says "or" and doesn't mention mechanical function at all. so i guess it must be another one.
