Well after looking at what people wear in them when not wearing the fork it actually looks super awkward and I'm not all for that.

one of my ears is pointy and the other is rounded, i'd consider getting an industrial on the pointed one if it didn't scream "look at me, i'm unique" considering i'm not the sort for big piercings like that

I think of the "hey look at me" to be nothing but one's perspective on the piercing in question. If you want it because you like it, then who cares what someone has to say? Unless it's job-oriented opinion by a superior then do as you will.
