You can but it may make it worse.
Depends on factors but I knew a guy who has schizophrenia and smoked all day every day.
When left alone in a room he would start talking to himself. Full on conversations.
Nice guy but it made his worse. I'd go to use the can, come back and he'd be debating himself.
