YES!! i finally found it! the Born sake that i tried a while back. i finally managed to get a bottle of it. (only one for now, though, its about $60 per bottle. same price or a lil cheaper than a good sccotch, but a good scotch will last longer as you dont drink as much at oncce.) anyway, OMG so good. absolutely amazing sake, hands down best ive ever had. i cant imagine it getting any better tthan this. but then, my wife couldnt imagine it getting any better than the dassai 50 that weve been getting, and she was still wowed by this, so who knows... awsome sake either way...

a discussion somewhere about the effects of charcoal filtering got me wondering about the charring of barrels for bourbon and how that might affect a scotch. while theres quite a few scotches aged in ex-bourbon barrels, scotches aged un virgin charred barrels is mroe rare. so far ive only found one - a special release of glengarioh. saw it at a store the other day so i figured id try it. unfortunately, it didnt work out quite as well as id hoped. the barrel overpowers the scotch, and it ends up tasting quite close to a bourbon. seems quite a lot of that bourbony spiciness comes from the barrel.
