If a disk is facing us, and then spins around its vertical axis, we can see it becoming narrower and wider over and over again. When a sphere spins (such as a soccer ball), the object will always look circular to us. Jupiter's visible behavior matches that of a spinning sphere.

Jupiter is called a gas giant, how can just gas be a planet?

Simple. You get billions of billions of tons of gasious matter roll it into a giant ball and boom gas giant.


Also the gravity and pressures of jupiter and other giants is so great that the cores are likely solid or liquid forms of said gases.

Also chivas, if jupiter was a disk, and spun you would be able to see the storm always, you cant its only visible when its facing earth.
