I don't care what people say, the brain rot is real. People always say, oh no that's not true, every generation had dumb kids doing dumb trends, bullshit! We didn't have the internet in the 90s, and even if you did, you did simple basic stuff. We played outside, play consoles, etc, just normal kid stuff. Nowadays kids are terminally online and watch nothing but brain rot youtube/tiktok stuff where people come up with new trends and buzzwords every month and the kids feel like they need to fit it and imitate what they say. My finances nephew says 67 about 20 times a day, like he's retarded or something. He watches it nonstop and then repeats everything he hears, and he's 10.
The thing about it is, it's just complete nonsense. 67 doesn't even make any sense, and he doesn't even know what it means, he just copies what he hears. When I was younger, I didn't copy any trends, I just made my own way and was not a follower. People nowadays are sheep and will jump onto the bandwagon that is the flavor of the week and it's so unoriginal. Did you guys know they don't even say sup anymore, they say wsp?? Lol, I just learned this a few days ago, what the hell..
It's just going to get worse and worse, especially with AI. Even the adults are going to be fooled and watch nothing but fake videos. I think I won't let my future kids have a phone until they're like 13 or something, or strictly monitor what they watch and do. What about you guys? Do you have kids? Do you let them watch any kind of brain rot stuff that they want?
Whilst I'm sure each successive generation has said the same thing, I am on board with you when it comes to online content. No previous generation has had this level, or volume, of attention-grabbing content at their fingertips. Folks might have said the same thing when, I don't know, comic books came out. Or handheld gaming devices like Pokemon. But I do think smartphones and social media are a different ball game entirely.
I'm strongly of the belief that the human race was not ready for this level of connectivity, emotionally and psychologically speaking. Look at the damage social media does, the amount of anxiety and inferiority it fosters, not to mention the amount of money, power and surveillance companies like Meta have.
