In the grand scheme of things it isn't anything spectacular, but for a $35-$40 bottle it is pretty good in my opinion.

i can agree with that...

I do enjoy a good lagavulin...

Three most recent purchases, nothing overly fancy, but all enjoyable.

Laphroaig 15
Ardberg 10

MacGavvins Highland Single Malt -- This one was interesting, I had never heard of/seen it before, but I saw it it the store for like $30, and since I had a pretty good stock of good scotches I decided I'd give it a shot. You'd never mistake it for a "known" highland single malt, but it was much better than I was expecting for such a cheap bottle. Would recommend for anyone who is looking for a decent drink but doesn't want to drop a lot of money.

What are your thoughts on adding a few drops of water to scotches? For the most part I don't really notice a difference, but there have been one or two where I think it's made a positive impact. Perhaps my tastes just aren't refined enough yet.

hows the lap 15? ive had the regular and the quarter cask. not the 15 tho.

ill have to look into macgavvins, never heard of it. islay mist is also a surprisingly good bottle, at ~20. blended, but of islay malts. pretty decent.

as for water, i rarely do. tried it a couple times, but meh.

Bought the Isle of Arran 10 Year Old. Very nice for a relatively cheap and new scotch, definitely recommend if you can find it near you.

well the isle of arran is close enough to me, i might give that a shot.

Picked up two more that I had never heard of before...Lismore Speyside Single Malt and Kilchoman Machir Bay, have yet to crack the bottles open yet though. Ever had either?

I like the Lap 15. Not quite as peaty as the 10 year/quater cask and a little bit sweeter instead. Still has the peat flavor that you'd expect with a Laphroaig, just not as strong.

ive got the kilchoman. its interesting. not my favorite, but not bad, either. havent had in a while, tho, one sec...

mm, ah yes. its got a good dose of peat, but its not a particularly robust flavor. reminds of big peat. sour tones, and almost reminds me a big of a peated tequila/plum brandy. its got a somewhat similar flavor profile, imo. same for big peat.

the lap 15 sounds interesting, ill have to check that out.

Scotch is alcoholic but not in any other purpose without having any of your own business with us
