no that's not what i think. as travelling on a sphere (the earth or any old sphere you like) is not travelling any further or closer to the central point, regardless of direction one is travelling in, there is no "up a curve" at all. that would require a change in elevation, which is to get closer or further from a central point. as all spheres have a central point that's the same distance from all parts of the edge of said sphere, elevation change is impossible without leaving the surface of the sphere.
