Nugget

He gets Mazuri turtle diet for his daily as it has the major nutrients he needs. (Technically bi-daily. Turtle’s can get very overweight and get liver disease because of it so you really should only do every other or every three days. He’s still smaller so we do every other.)

Then he likes dandelion leaves, Carrots, kale and anacharis. He also enjoys meal worms, shrimp, crickets and blood worm balls. Now and then we put minnows in there to help him get exercise (kinda make him work for his food)

He also gets a calcium block to nibble on now and then (not too often cause we have very hard water here anyways.

Minnows or Ruby Reds

We got away from Ruby Reds. They aren’t as healthy for him.

You can’t give captive turtles too much protein or they won’t eat anything else and get ill. The reason you don’t worry about it in the wild is the prey has a lot easier time of escaping than they do in captivity. So when they have no luck hunting and get tired they munch on other good stuff. In captivity though you have to regulate/mimic that diet for them.

He also LOVES strawberries but only gets them once a month because they aren’t technically the best for him.

My red eared slider before him was well over 3 decades old.
