Although I agree that the best person to do something about the problem is the one "suffering" from that problem, but you have to consider the fact that society as we have it now pumps each and every food we can purchase full of excessives. It's not just an individual choice, it's a societal one.

'funny' thing is its both a lazy thing
if africa would become less corrupt and ppl actually do want to change, man, the poverty thing would be solved in just a few ten years for sure
