I don't think he was trying to win or to beat you. He was just apologizing for inadvertently offending you. A straight-forward apology.

and worse we have a hidden "wealth tax" wich basically comes down to 2% tax over anything above 50k or something

It's not a big deal either way but I doubt it. "welfare queen" is derogatory to begin with and he is known to clash with people.

Wow, I expected the 49% to apply to incomes of at least 150-200k but it starts at 68,508. You already reach 49% at below 70k.
