problem is that they teach teachers to teach to the test. its why schools are failing the youth of the past few generations. i'd blame no child left behind or w.e happened when i was a kid

100% agree, no child left behind was a horrible mistake that was propagandized as a great solution.

I guess my point was just that,.. If you repeat a lie enough, it becomes journalism.

So in that same vein, even websites that are deemed appropriate for youth education on face value.
May actually have long lasting psychological impacts or even a bias point of view.

It's in part human nature but also the fact that we can't test information fast enough to understand their long term effects.

Instead of sticking with what has worked for hundreds of years of youth education.
The system has been compromised with 'progression' towards untested solutions to a problem that already had a solution.

1900s one room school house children had reading and writing comprehension equal to the level of a 4th year college student in 2026.

The problem here is The only two poll options are both extremes.

Of course social media is addictive. People want to be liked And those positive feelings release positive secretions into our body. No idea how people don't think this could lead to an addiction.

Is it as addictive as meth or cocaine? Not in any timeline or multiverse.

It's human nature to go towards positive feelings even if addictive.
Evolution is based on this, reproduction feels good so humans keep doing it.
Even if the human is a terrible parent or terrible person.

-----
edit: And we as a collective society have to deal with raising the children created by terrible parents.
otherwise society breaks down and regresses.

This entire Social Media and Children topic is not about protecting children.
It never was and never will be.

It's about Control, the ultimate goal of this is Real Identification for online access.

Your online anonymity is no more if you push for what OP is suggesting.
Not only will private companies have more access to your personal information but your entire online presence.
As well as governments present and future.

Do you want your children's ID on the internet?

Anything that triggers your serotonin and dopamine imbalances can become impulsive and addictive, no?

There’s plenty of evidence that it’s very lethal just like drugs. Millions of people have died from overdoses. Social media is not up there yet in terms of deaths, but it’s climbing (suicides). But that’s because SM is still relatively new, while hard drugs have been around for many generations. It’s time to address this. If I had kids, I would not allow them smartphones until they’re adults, and I’d drill it into their minds at a very young age about how dangerously addictive it is so they will develop a healthy fear for it that will stick with them long after they become adults.

Kinda relevant to topic:

If you love your kids, do not give them smartphones. No matter how much they beg you. They’re kids, they don’t know any better. Protect them like a mama bear protects her cubs.

No.
Taking AI devices away from your children will hinder them in this modern world.
You are better off teaching them how to use AI devices not get rid of them. If that involves social media too so be it.
Otherwise when they get older how are they going to do their banking? Apply for a rental? Progress in a career? Contact their loved ones? Pay their bills? Study?
A smartphone can do all of this remember...

There will be a form a real ID on the internet in the next 5-10 years 100%.
There will be nothing you can do about it.
