Maybe for some people but not for everybody. Basically what you're saying is literally anyone depressed can just work out and magically feel better. What if you don't like working out? What if you're already physically fit and healthy and still depressed? What if you work out and it doesn't work?
That's not what I'm saying, there is no magically feeling better overnight. It's a process of years, very slowly incrementally feeling perhaps a little bit better week to week or month to month or year to year. It's a struggle, a fight, and it's NOT easy. There's a level of self accountability and intrinsic discipline needed.
But yes, anyone, if they steel themselves and mentally accept the necessity of work & struggle on their part, anyone can feel better. I know because it's true and I did it myself.
It's obscenely cruel to tell a depressed person that their condition is intrinsic, thus there is no way to fix it. That's not only cruel but very wrong.
It's not a matter of "not liking" working out. That is a solipsistic view which can be fixed by working to expand your perspectives. It's not about liking it, it's about seeing it as
necessary for your health and wellbeing. Exercise is HARD especially starting out, and part of banishing depression is to spiritually accept the necessity of exertion or work on your part. The quitting if it doesn't work mentality is also something that holds people down, this is a process of years and you don't see progress overnight. You will see progress after a period of ~3 months if you have remained disciplined and fostered the will to exert yourself to a necessary degree during each workout.
Now, for people that are physically fit and healthy and still depressed (this is very RARE which is a very important point - statistics matter in this regard) the depression is not like the depression of an unhealthy person, it is more related to the mind or grief. Different types here and it's complicated
But the fact remains that the single most important and helpful thing anyone can do to conduct an assault on their depression is to exercise with intensity & ferocity. Good doctors will tell people this too. The right medication can also help ALOT (I'm not anti medication for depression) but the help should be directed towards attacking the root problem.
