Tell me, where did you get this idea that there would be no strict rules on how to get into Heaven? Did you make up your own mind about God?
What is a good person? The book of Romans tells us that no one is righteous, not even one. Imagine if you were sitting in a room and a slideshow started playing that was your entire life out in the open for everyone to see? Yes, even the things you do behind closed doors. Would you not run away in shame?
A book written about him is easily accessible. Don't people have biographies written all the time?
It is the meeting together in fellowship with other Christians and group bonding that makes going to Church and Bible study something to look forward to!

Have you researched Jainism? Ironically that religion has been my instinct if I had to choose a religion. Aside from basic points like reincarnation and karma of course, those aspects are of course conjecture.
Specifically the idea that the universe is without a creator and without the need to be "forgiven". The only true way to set our minds free is by unlocking it ourselves.. (karma). A very interesting theology. And by contrast Christianity is a cult given its history. By comparing the two it's easy to see Christianity is about obedience and power to a matterless entity whereas Jainism is about pure living and non violence, surprisingly all followers are vegetarian!
