Take a moment and break down what this passage is saying and then I will

Gladly. here is the passage in it's entirety:

Ephesians 2:1-10 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Let's look at what our state is without God. We are dead in our transgressions and sins. As a result we followed the ways of this world and the ruler of the Earth, the devil. This means we chase after the things of this world and do not care for God. We deserve the wrath of God.

However, God loved us so much that we were made alive in Christ, even while we were dead in our transgressions. By the grace of God we have been saved. We are raised with Christ who seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus. Now he can show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

To summarize, we are saved by grace, through faith and NOT by works. It is the gift of God. There is nobody on this world who can say that they saved themselves, nobody can boast about that. God created us in his image to do good works, which He has prepared in advance for us to do.

I didn't ask for the entire passage and an interpretation, I asked for a breakdown of the single verse as how you presented it

Ephesians 2:8 - "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,"

Try again :)

Let it be known to everyone who reads this that death_knight blatantly made a fool of himself. As you can see he asked for a break down of the passage, which means the context behind that verse.

He then says in his most recent post that he actually meant the single verse and not the whole passage.

I mean really? How thick can you get?

If he really wanted his answer then he simply would have read the last line which is the summarization of that very verse.

Breakdown in my opinion means breaking down each word in the 2 sentences which I did word for word, which I wanted you to do first as not to become biased based on my analysis

but you on the other hand decided to deliver upon me another lesson that is besides the point AND call me a fool, clearly it is you that is in ignorance for you failed to follow instructions in a simple debate and reply with scorn!

I'm not stupid and I don't think you are either

But you sure can't have an impartial and unbiased conversation that's for certain

A breakdown of that verse is that God had mercy on us and saved us. Not because of anything we did so we can't take the credit for our salvation! :)

That was the breakdown of that verse! God pretty much bent over backwards and made it super easy for us to enter the gates of heaven! The only thing that we actually have to do is believe in His Son Jesus and that what He did on the cross was sufficient to cover our sins! Trust in Him and we will be saved! That's it! Super simple! :)

That's an interpretation / summary.. perhaps I am using the wrong terminology

I'm asking for a literal description of the exact words as presented

The point I'm trying to make is that verse is a fallacy, when I have more time later I'll take 20 minutes to describe my objective analysis

Both of you as far as I'm concerned have an incorrect interpretation of the passage based on the words used and I want to emphasize how it's religious bias to do so

I'll return to this later

Okay but when you do, can you please give me an idea of what these verses mean too? :)

But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; that being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Titus 3:4‭-‬7 KJV

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Romans 3:20 KJV

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; to declare, I say , at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Romans 3:20‭, ‬23‭-‬26 KJV

Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Romans 3:27‭-‬28 KJV

Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
Habakkuk 2:4 KJV

Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
2 Timothy 1:8‭-‬9 KJV

These are just a few verses about how God saves! There are many more than that! :D
