You say that the sun is not really setting or dropping below the horizon its moving out of range of sight.
Now if we look at your own picture of perspective images appear smaller when you move away
The view of the floor below appears to rise and view above appears to drop
If you go further away objects ahead of you appear to "come together" or converge

Now you proposed the theory of magnification in the atmosphere caused by water in gas form and by evaporation.
and that's where the conversation comes to and end and
