Racism is rampant in the USA. Ethnicity seems to be so important, to the point people will casually ask you about your heritage like it's important.

Growing up in a society where ethnicity isn't important is nice. Sure we have ignorant racists like every country, but they aren't making policies in government and don't make up a large proportion of the population.

For the majority of my life racism in the USA was in decline. Which is all you can really hope for. its not something that just vanishes. Then several years ago the media started screaming racism all day and night on repeat. The media is responsible for the strong surge of new racism in the USA.

Oh. Right. I'm sure the century of institutional racism that blacks have been protesting (and whites have been perpetually indifferent to) had nothing to do with it.
