evolution is just a theory. Most of the people have hard time fathoming the timespan required for serious changes in species. 1 billion years is a lots and lots of time.

U are able to observe evolution in microorganisms. Eg. bacteria that are resistent to antibiotics. There can be so many millions of bacteria per square milimeter and if one carries the mutation that helps it through, this mutation will flourish.
