Lol, I love it when you get all sciency. I had to be reminded that you use science terms while having no idea what they mean or how they're relevant to the discussion.

The air isn't performing work.

yup lol. and also redefining and moving goalposts at will.

a slinky isn't a spring, because you don't compress it.

(finds out not all springs are compression springs)

that was made by NASA

(finds out it wasn't, and is actually all over the internet, including all wikis)

that's not a spring because it doesnt have a mechanical purpose

(where does it say anywhere that it needs to have a mechanical purpose to count as a spring)

well its in a mechanical website, so DUHHHHH globetard

(ok here's a mechanical use for a slinky)

well at least NASA doest need to tell me what springs are.

(yeah, thesnipa@d2jsp does)

Another claim where you dont explain your issue, just express how triggered you get - nice appeal to crayon munching.

From the free dictionary : PSI
Pounds per square inch: a unit for measuring pressure. One PSI equals the pressure resulting from a force of one pound force acting over an area of one square inch.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Work_(physics)
Work is the product of force and distance

Nice job proving you dont what the f your talking about

Acting on an area. An area of what? The imaginary dome over us?

PSI denotes there must be a container and a vacuum is not a container

Narnia is a Fantasy, not a fact.

Keep thinking about the direction of water in toilet bowls, you probably won't get that.

Quote (card_sultan @ Jun 26 2019 04:55pm)
It is inconceivable, that inanimate brute matter should, without the mediation of something else, which is not material, operate upon and affect other matter without mutual contact … That gravity should be innate, inherent, and essential to matter, so that one body may act upon another at a distance, through a vacuum, without the mediation of anything else, by and through which their action and force may be conveyed from one to another, is to me so great an absurdity, that I believe no man who has in philosophical matters a competent faculty of thinking, can ever fall into it. - Sir Isaac Newton

If you're going to use the father of gravity as a source, make sure you finish the quote:

Gravity must be caused by an agent acting constantly according to certain laws; but whether this agent be material or immaterial, I have left open to the consideration of my readers. ~ also Isaac Newton, finishing your quote.

as the "slinky machine's" run predominately on electric motors or pneumatics that perhaps wasnt the best example, here's another:

the slinky's mechanical ability to lower the squirrel trying to climb it to the ground then return to the resting position makes it so effective.

sorry that's not the slinky doing "work" -its just sitting there doing nothing - is a barb wire fence a spring too?

I see what you're after, you're simply incredulous that gravity creates pressure.

Work is the product of force and distance. In physics, a force is said to do work if, when acting, there is a movement of the point of application in the direction of the force.

By moving, the slinky is doing work.
