why the Sun doesn't appear to get smaller on the FE as its moving out of our range of site during sunset
Chivas believes it caused by magnification in the atmosphere caused by water
Card believes the higher you go the less objects will change in size as they move out of our range of site bypassing the theory above
And of cause the Vedic FE model popped up
I see.
My sister is a flat earth advocate and I am worried about my nephew's future. I have recently read "The Demon-Haunted World: Science As a Candle in the Dark" As a means to bring freshly to my mind a way to combat my sister's ignorance. I am not worried about my sister; she has a great job with heath benefits for young Ryker. Who I am worried about is my nephew Ryker. I am afraid that he will have no chance in life with his mother poisoning his mind from the very start. Okay, the general public school system may not be the best, but what hope can we have for Ryker if he enters school distrusting his teachers and adamantly assuming the world is flat? What I am wondering here is how I can approach my sister calmly and quietly about her views on the flat earth.
Let me explain a little bit about her behaviour:
It is quite typical of a conspiracy theorist. She has a general distrust in authority, which is why I cannot use any authoritative studies to dissuade her beliefs. Any attempt to speak with her about the science behind flat earth and/or reality (globe earth...) results in her frenzied anger almost immediately. Let me be clear: I do not (at least I am trying not to) attack her in any way in my approach. I am not trying to belittle her beliefs or question them. Even if I simply ask her about the flat earth she begins to flip out (because she knows that I do not believe it, so she knows where the conversation is going).
Please, for my nephew, I need some help. How can I:
-Get Jen to have a conversation with me rationally
-Make a valid point to her that she cannot defer to youtube videos which obviously deter the whole discussion since we can't continue talking until I have watched a 2 hour bogus documentary...
-Help my nephew have a good start in life despite his flat earth/conspiracy theorist mother
I've decided that giving Ryker a secret education behind Jen's back is not the way to go. Instead, I need to convince Jen. Any ideas how I can help out my nephew?
