did a few more blind tastings. had a great idea for it, too - now we use a black shot glass so that we cant see the color of it and rule out anything like that, relying only on smell and taste.
monday night my wife gave me isle of jura superstition. i didnt really get that one, but again, its not one i usually drink and wasnt thinking about. i forgot what i gave her, but she didnt get it either.
tuesday was balcones single malt. again not one of my favorites, as it has a rather bourbony flavor to me, and thats what i thought it was - a bourbon. i guessed a couple bourbons first, then my wife said it wasnt a bourbon, so i knew then what it was. i gave her caol ila, which is one of our favorites, but she wasnt able to get it at first. after a bit she said she thought it might be peated, and when i confirmed that, then she knew it was caol ila.
tonight she gave me lagavulin, which i knew right away. one whiff and i knew it was peated, and one sip and i was 95% sure it was lagavulin. tasted a bit more to be sure, but i was right. i gave her ardbeg uigedail, and after a couple tastes she said its too delicious, it has to be ardbeg. so she was right, she would know that one pretty much right away.
