We call that force gravity, but it really doesn't matter what we call it.

That the force obeys Newtons law of gravity (F=Gm1m2/r2 in which F is the gravitational force, G is a constant, m1 and m2 are the masses of the two objects, and r2 is the square of the distance between the objects) is also a fact.

The explanation of why gravity works is a THEORY which can never be proven. But that the force we call gravity exists and obeys Newton's laws are both facts.
