What does fear mean in this scenario? It has to do with respect. You fear your boss in that you do not want to get on their bad side.

If you do not fear your boss then you will have shaky relations with them.

Just like if you do not fear God you would say "Get lost, I don't want anything to do with you or Heaven." God did not condemn you, at that point you have decided your own judgement.
