They have much easier ways to get rid of processed foods.
Also, the food industry is a private enterprise. The government has nothing to do with it other then regulations.

yes and no. those regulations also extend to packaging and labeling (look up avocado oil/olive oil labelling). enter food industry lobbying

but basically, food companies are going to do whatever they can within the confines of regulations to maximize their profits

labelling can be intentionally confusing/deceiving (I.e labeling “healthy” on a bag. It’s marketing, nothing more). Grass fed vs. grass finished vs. organic beef all mean different things. it’s on us as consumers to educate ourselves and manage our diets

I don't think this is the government's hand exactly.
The farmers or slaughter companies are in the business of selling animals. They are goign to want to sell everything they can to make as much money as possible. The food industry is producing these cheap food products and there is people willing to buy it and eat it. It's largely a supply and demand scenario.

Government may make the regulations that allow this buying and selling, but it's not the government generating a billion cow livers- it's the public doing it all on their own.

Government's role in the regulation of the food industry and government's role in the nutrition of the general public are complicated topics with different people having different schools of thought depending on their political ideology and personal views.
