i got some new stuff recently, at the bottom is an updated list of what i have now.  one of the best new purchases was Yamazaki 12 year.  this stuff can easily compete with some of the the better scotches - its GOOD.  smooth, bold, flavorful.  no wonder the 25 year version goes for $2000... the 18 year is more moderately priced at $160, ill have to try that out sometime.

i also struck gold again with another discontinued find.  man, i got good luck with that.  picked up two bottles of glenkinchie 10 year for $50 each.  the last one i got was $130.  ghereonna keep these for myself, rather than resell them like i did with the longmorn 15's i got a while back.  wish id kept one of em for myself...

Best Scotch is single malt. The only JW I care for is Blue Label, but that is not cheap. Love Balvenie and Lagavulin, as well as Glenmorangie. Glenlivet is a good mainstay.

I do want to try that Yamazaki sometime. I think my primary liquor store carries it, too (they have over 200 Scotches on hand, plus over 1200 types of beer...heaven for me).

I'm having a tasting at my friends house after he finishes teaching his class and I finish mine. He just got 5 new brands we've never tried. I'll let you know how they are.

you definitely should, its become a new favorite of mine. i still like a good peated islay malt like lagavulin or caol ila better, but as far as un-peated malts go, its easily one of the best ive had. they came out with a peated version too, recently called hakashu, i think. im curious to try that also...

oh, and yeah, i agree, most johnny walker is highly overrated. i had a special edition blue label recently which was good, but wasnt worth the price. platinum also isnt bad, but theres much better stuff for cheaper.
