I also switch it up and I do it consciously. I trained the basic life skills early because you never know when an accident will occur and you'll be in a arm cast or shoulder sling and struggling with fundamental day to day routines.

Once again that's a detail that doesnt matter. The question isn't about the index finger, its about the thumb.
