It depends what kind of keyboard you have. If you have the type like OP has, you should be able to pull them off by hand without issue.

If you have the regular style of keyboard, no raised buttons that don't click, it's recommended to use a special tool to make sure you don't break anything. But technically you can use something like a butter knife, just gotta really be careful.

i soak the keys in soapy water
then I shake out the board and clean it with qtips and alcohol
I have a shitty backup keyboard I use while everything dries

I've had this keyboard for 9 years and it's still going strong
