He asked for an xbox one for his room - the minecraft bundle of course, I don’t remember my 6th birthday, i might have gotten a bike or something, you guys think its too much to spend on a 6yr old (like 220+60 for the live membership) and we have 2xbox ones in the house already... one in living room one in my 12yr old daughters room..?

That's your deal, you know better than we do.

I wouldn't based on the other ones being in the house from a not wanting things to be that easy or important materialistically point of view but you know your kid and how they act, go with your gut. They will just beat the shit outta it eventually anyway

I'm gonna chime in as a fellow member of society that's watching his younger cousins grow up in the world of digital entertainment.

Dont do it.

It may seem mean, but let me explain:

People these days are becoming far too dependent on video games, social media and the internet in general. When I was young I had video games and was somewhat spoiled. If I could go back in time I'd change that right away.

Plus, hes six. That's far too young to be able to be detached from society and having his own little "world". Maybe 10, or 12, but definitely not six. He should he spending time outside, having fun, running around playing and making use of his energy rather than being cooped up playing video games.

Eh he’s a good kid and I think he’ll use it with his friends when the other’s are or are not available... just seems like a lot to spend on a 6yr old...

I do see your point but then again he already has video games and if he wanted to stay couped up playing them he would, he spends a lot of his time out back on his playscape and the trampoline etc....

I think im gonna get it for him but damn it seems crazy to me...

Let me get this straight then. You have 2 xbox ones already in the house and your son has other video games. Does he have a computer? Is there a need for a third machine?

To add to the conversation: I also was outside a lot his age and also played many games, pokemon etc were getting massive at that time. As time progressed I became less outgoing, more focused on games etc. Soon grades fell and I was honestly worse than I have ever been in my life. I'm not saying that will happen but from my point of view it's almost a gateway drug into degeneracy.

Literally. Give him a guitar instead of guitar hero.

Well I have 3 kids and if we had 3 machines they could all play together in the same video game worlds so it kinda makes it a cool option, he does have access to my computer or multiple laptops i have in the house, and an iPad lol... idk I feel like I’m giving him things I woulda never gotten, grew up relatively poor with a big family, I like giving my kids the stuff they want, my 12yr old is in the national jr honor society and is already looking into highschools that are actually hard to get into she’s really interested in cass tech, my 11yr old gets good grades too - not quite as good but still all bs or better and she’s involved in extracurriculars too, both have good groups of friends and they go do stuff outside the house... would it be a stretch to think he is gonna follow in their footsteps? They had the stuff they wanted when they were young too... I grew up poor and didn’t have shit, ended up dropping highschool doing drugs and whatever else I wanted, so far I think this option is better, maybe I should try to find a good medium level but it’s hard to decide I mean it’s not like I don’t have the cash but I am worried he might cut off from people eventually like you said... eh I’ll just have to keep an eye on it, can always cut that shit off if I feel it’s getting like that...

I get where you're coming from. Do what you want but do please keep it in check. Maybe limit it or something. Threaten him with uncle bogs if you want to. Too much of a hood thing can be bad. Make sure he finds something early on hes passionate about and nurture it.
