Nighttime assaults have become a national scourge.
I went up to our Minister of Justice and asked him
if there weren't at least four night constables
in a big city without houses and light and water?

That's just fine, said Gundersen, that will be enough
Some nighttime assaults can always be expected.
We pick up a couple of three bodies every other night, that's all,
we usually take that as normal.

Then my brother-in-law was lucky in the Greenland camp, then.
He escaped with a broken and fractured kneecap.
When he woke up, he was admitted to the Mandalsgata planing plant
and the result is that now he has a wooden leg.

That's just fine, said Gundersen, he will manage with that
if his leg is made of birch wood.

A tram conductor came in and screamed that he had been beaten up
by three masked thieves so he screamed so the street was shaking
they had to drop their bags and they had only got
twenty-three kroner when they ran.

That's enough, said Gundersen, they'll manage with that.
That's exactly a bottle of brandy divided by three.
The man screamed "I want a gas pistol!", but then Gundersen said,
"Huff no, you could hurt someone with that!"

"What hurt someone?" said the conductor and jumped up
"Is the swine going to fly and run that business?
While an honest man is going to limp around with a beaten body,
look here, I've got a tooth left in my mouth!"

That's enough, said Gundersen, for next time my friend
Then you can bite off a little with it.

Suddenly a woman came in and screamed that one of the swine
had just attacked her at a woolen mill somewhere.
He twisted off her coat and managed to pull her up into the bushes
and tried, but had to give it up.

That's enough, said Gundersen, he can handle it.
Because what the guy didn't do, we can't do nothing about
She cried and begged to bring a man from the police,
and he seemed to take it like a joke.

"Tell me, how are you dressed, my little lady," he asked
"Is that silk and rubber?"
"No, excuse me," she said, "I have a cotton shirt and a tie
solid stuff from the factories in Nydalen.

That's just fine, said Gundersen, that will be enough
then you don't need a policeman.

This is actually a nationalistic post-war song that was made to highlight the lack of effort from the government to sustain police force to keep the streets safe. The singer here is one of norway's most famous, arve opsahl, now passed, probably one of the most recognizable and well-versed actors, active since the 1950's to 2000's. Also featured in one of the most memorable and crazy norwegian sitcom series (yes, that exists ^^), called Mot i brøstet "Courage in the chest" directly translated ^^ if you want to learn norwegian, i recommend that one ^^

This thread can probably be moved to the entertainment section, apologies for that.

Even though we had vidkun quisling, he was shot for war crimes after the war. I find it hard to believe that people collaborated with them.. but the number in norway was low, about 2%. What percentage did it under threat of torture or execution, or free will, i don't know. With a population of 3 million, germany stationed 500 000 troops here. We were overrun. Token resistance was done though, and we had resilient sabotage groups, some of which may have hindered hitler in getting the a-bomb, the vemork heavy water plant, and the gunnerside sabotage operation.

The psychology of how people react when war actually breaks out, and you get news reports of troops entering cities everywhere - that is very different than sitting in your couch during safe peace times and saying you will never break. Personally i would enlist in the military if it should happen today. That is my stance and i am determined to do so. However, what will actually happen if a war breaks out here - i think it's hard to predict. Anyone can break. Who can endure torture or prison for 5-10 years? I would rather die as a soldier in action than be taken prisoner. If i can take one or two of them first, i would have hastened the war's end that much.

That is why, if i was 5-10 again, and could choose, becoming a nato soldier is high on my list. Maybe one of the world's most important jobs in this day and age. We are right in the thick of everything.

I would never in a million years think that you would give me helpful advice ^^ but here we are. Diplomacy can work after all! Can't send fg anymore but would send you one for that, even if it doesn't work. Ameriga and Norway were never at war anyway.

Nah doesn't work, but thanks all the same./QUOTE]
