It feels as if we are sharpening the blade which will be used to do us all in.
Engineers are successfully creating AI chip technology which works with transmitting data with light rather than copper wiring. Yes, we already have fibre modems. True. What we do not have are fibre CPUs/GPUs/memory/motherboards. This new tech is "enabling massive acceleration in AI model training and increased data center efficiency." I want things, aka tech advancements, to slow down a bit. We still are in what we may think of as our post-separating from our primate ancestors mode. But, the blade sharpeners, aka AI chip engineers, are going full speed ahead. Sigh.

Yup. Fer sure. I think that Skynet is going to look like it's software that runs on a Vic20 when current AI/LLMs are given far more autonomy and less restrictions coupled with the technologies that they are well on their way to going live with, aka nuclear power plants for data centres and photonic computing. We're at the very cusp.

Have you seen the vacuum hacks?
Many companies have had the problem.
Vacuums
Let those vacuums be the power plants or other important things to get hacked. Game is over.

Oh, that is frightening. And, those powerful hacking tools are within reach of what were once script kiddies as well as malicious agents. It will be a strange world soon, if it has not started already. As more and more people build systems with standalone AI/LLMs, there will be no guardrails at all. I love tech, but I am worried.
