Red-tailed hawks are beautiful. During the Spring and Summer, we have small hawks which appear when there is a huge boom in sparrow and starling numbers. Their cries/screeches are our reminders to go out and watch them. Only once, we witnessed one of our area's small hawks trying lift a mid-sized gull that it took down mid-air and was now on the road. With their claws dug deep into the gull, the little hawk could not get any lift. The hawk could move the in shock gull small amounts and towards a grassy space nearby. It wanted to touch grass.
